(Summary description)Calcium carbonate is widely used and has applications in many fields of industrial production. This article only introduces its application in food and medicine. Due to the simple structure of calcium carbonate, stable chemical properties (good safety), high calcium content (40% calcium content is the highest calcium content among all edible calcium compounds. Other calcium compounds, such as calcium citrate, calcium lactate , calcium hydrogen phosphate, etc., due to the large molecular weight, the relative calcium content is low).

Application of calcium carbonate products
Calcium carbonate is widely used and has applications in many fields of industrial production. This article only introduces its application in food and medicine. Due to the simple structure of calcium carbonate, stable chemical properties (good safety), high calcium content (40% calcium content is the highest calcium content among all edible calcium compounds. 1. Application of calcium carbonate in the pharmaceutical industry:
1.1 Calcium supplementation: As an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API, active Pharmaceutical Ingredient), calcium carbonate plays a leading role in downstream calcium supplementation preparations. Common calcium supplement preparations are: calcium carbonate tablets, calcium carbonate D3 tablets (swallow or chewable tablets), calcium carbonate D3 granules, calcium carbonate D3 effervescent tablets, calcium carbonate D3 suspensions, etc. Calcium carbonate is used as a calcium supplement API with the largest dosage.
Note: All downstream preparation products can be inquired on the website of the State Drug Administration. The specific method of collection: open the website of the State Drug Administration, click the domestic drug in the drug column, and enter the keyword calcium carbonate in the product column.
1.2 Antiacid: The role of calcium carbonate in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia is not only calcium supplementation, but also antacid. Calcium carbonate can be used as the main component of anti-gastric acid preparations.
Note: Chinese Pharmacopoeia 1 is the quality standard and inspection standard of drugs formulated by our country. Most of the drugs are included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, and the quality standards of some drugs are not included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and exist as separate national standards. (must be approved by the Pharmacopoeia Committee). The company's drug registration standards are national trial standards starting with YBH.
1.3 Pharmaceutical excipients: Calcium carbonate can also be used as pharmaceutical excipients, added to medicines, and generally used as fillers.
Note: Pharmaceutical preparation regulations require the use of APIs.
2. Application of calcium carbonate in food industry:
The application of calcium carbonate in the food industry can be used as a food additive, a nutritional fortifier and as a base material in gum base (gum base or base material in gum base candy). my country has clear regulations on the scope and amount of additives used in the food industry.
2.1 Calcium carbonate is used as a food additive, and downstream customers must abide by GB2760 "Standards for the Use of Food Additives" (there will be different versions, which will be updated from time to time, and the latest version should be quoted when consulting). The relevant content of calcium carbonate is now excerpted as follows:
This product is used as leavening agent and flour treatment agent, and can be used in moderation according to production needs. (GB2760)

2.3 Calcium carbonate is used as a base material in gum base (gum base or base material in gum base candy), and the amount is used in an appropriate amount according to production needs. (GB29987 "Gum base and its ingredients").
.
3. Application of calcium carbonate particles:
The application of calcium carbonate particles has developed with the development of the health care product industry in recent years. To understand the application of calcium carbonate granules, first of all, let's understand the production process of tablets.
3.1 The production process of tablets: whether it is a drug tablet or a health product tablet, the processing technology is the same.
Calcium Carbonate D3 Tablets
It can be seen from the production process of the tablet that the granulation process of calcium carbonate granules belongs to the previous process of tablet production. The follow-up is only directly compressed into tablets (coated or uncoated) and then packaged.
3.2 Due to regulatory requirements, pharmaceutical tablet manufacturers are not allowed to subcontract part of their production processes to suppliers, but there are no special requirements for health care products regulations, so many health care product industries directly purchase calcium carbonate for cost savings or environmental protection requirements. After granulation, the production line is relatively simple, and some only need a tablet press to complete the entire production. Due to the strict management of those foreign-funded enterprises, the corresponding production costs are high, and the production costs are greatly reduced after reducing the process, which is also the reason why calcium carbonate particles are more popular at present.
